Technically, the Major League Baseball season has already begun. But, the official Opening Day for the national pastime is days away.
Of course, this also means we're treated to the usual crop of baseball video games that hit stores.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we couldn't post full reviews of PlayStation 3 title MLB 12: The Show and Major League Baseball 2K12.
However, as has been the case the last several years, The Show is still the dominant title, based on a few games I've been able to sneak in with both titles.
The Show remains as polished as ever, although I have mixed feelings on Pulse Pitching, a new feature for measuring pitch accuracy. Before each pitch, a circle pulses from large to small, and players must hit the button when the circle is at its smallest to make a precise throw. Easy in theory, but really tough to execute.
MLB 2K12, on the other hand, still can't get it together. They've tweaked the fielding and pitching a bit, but it doesn't really matter because they can't seem to get over some technical problems. Players still look stiff and move awkwardly at times between actions, while pitches and throws still don't look as if they pack a lot of power and velocity.
For the sake of baseball fans on the Xbox 360 who have MLB 2K12 as their only option, I do hope they get it together.
As for the rest of my weekend lineup? Here it is:
Kinect Star Wars. Can't imagine a Star Wars fan that wouldn't want to virtually wield Jedi powers and a lightsaber, or stomp around like a Rancor. But a Galactic Dance Off? Not sure how I feel about guiding a group of droids in the Electric Slide. More on this game next week.
Fibble -- Flick 'n' Roll. From the makers of the first-person shooter series Crysis comes a ... casual puzzle game? Players control extraterrestrial explorer Fibble as he searches for his crew after their spaceship crashes.
Readers, your turn. What will you play this weekend?
