Marquette is coming into this game after blowing out BYU by 20 points. The final score of their first round match was 88-68. The Golden Eagles were impressive in dismantling the Cougars of Brigham Young University, but Murray State should prove a much bigger challenge.
Murray State will also be trying to carry their own first round momentum as they put on an impressive showing against Colorado State, winning in a game that ended with a score of 58-41. Both teams should be ready for a much closer match this time around.
Here's more on this game from SB Nation:
By playing one of their worst games of the season against the Rams — they shot 39.2 percent, 50 percent from the free throw line in 26 attempts and had just nine assists — yet still winning by 18, they proved they're not a team capable of only beating up on weaker opponents; they can beat anyone.
Marquette… behind Big East Player of the Year Jae Crowder, they played their way to a three seed, justifying that selection with their destruction of BYU Thursday. Crowder had 25 points and 16 rebounds in the win, and if he plays like that, no one on Murray State will be able to stop him or the Golden Eagles.
The winner of this game will go on to play the winner of the matchup between Florida and Norfolk in the Sweet Sixteen.
