There probably aren't many brackets out there that have Loyola advancing past Ohio State. Most people see the Buckeyes making a serious run in this tournament. But, of course, the two will still play. A bit of fate, if you will, looms over this game according to CBS Sports:
F Jared Sullinger already had studied Loyola (Md.), the Buckeyes' NCAA opening opponent, long before he knew the teams would meet. He's a hoops junkie, and one night he happened to tune in to the Greyhounds playing Fairfield. "I love watching basketball. I think it's kind of funny that we're going to match up with them."
Can someone say foreshadowing? That stuff obviously doesn't matter, but it's interesting now that the two teams' paths are crossing.
The Buckeyes will also have as close to home court advantage as possible at this technically neutral site according to SB Nation, since its being played in Pittsburgh.
If Loyola stands a chance in the end of this game, it will be because Erik Etherly will be having himself a solid game. Here are some stats from the Baltimore Sun pertaining to Etherly's and the team's conjoined success:
In Loyola's eight losses, Etherly averaged 10.5 points, with only a 17-point performance in the Feb. 13 loss to Fairfield as the exception. In Loyola's 24 wins, the 6-foot-7 Etherly averaged 14.5 points and went over the 15-point mark in 10 games.
Whichever team wins this game will advance to play the winner of the Gonzada vs. West Virginia game.
