China's online game market is recovering from a slump that started in 2010, with total sales of computer and mobile online games growing over 34 percent year on year to reach nearly 46.9 billion yuan in 2011, according to an industry annual report recently released by the Ministry of Culture.
According to the report, the number of online game users in China rose 33 percent year on year to exceed 160 million in 2011, with the number of mobile online game users up 46 percent to exceed 50 million.
The domestic browser game market continued to grow rapidly to reach over 4.9 billion yuan, up 102 percent from 2010.
Meanwhile, the mobile online game market grew over 51 percent from 2010 to reach nearly 3.9 billion yuan. In addition, exports of homemade games reached 403 million U.S. dollars, up 76 percent from the previous year.
In the next few years, China's online game market will follow a trend of smaller game clients, more mobile browser-based games, and more standardized mobile online games.
