Mobile devices may best represent the next hardware generation, according to Theo Sanders, producer and creative director of Ubisoft Singapore's Ghost Recon Online.
Asked in a recent interview whether the PC has currently nudged ahead of consoles as a true next-gen platform, he told us: "I've seen data showing that kids now are trending more towards spending their time gaming on mobile devices, so maybe that'll be what the next generation looks like. But I'm sure the console manufacturers have some great ideas up their sleeves too.
"As for PC," he added, "it has always been kind of the 'wild west' part of the ecosystem. I can't say for sure it'll stay that way forever, but for now it's a really fun, challenging, and relevant platform to develop for."
His comments bring to mind those of Yakuza and Binary Domain creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, who said in February that he sees next-gen consoles holding a smaller market share than PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii managed, as portable and PC gaming take centre stage.
And earlier this week, Remedy CEO Matias Myllyrinne said he thinks the industry's "not far [away] at all" from delivering triple-A console quality gaming experiences on iPad.
According to Ubisoft, Ghost Recon Online "offers all the best qualities of the Ghost Recon franchise in a downloadable, dynamic, PC-based online game", and it certainly looks the business from what we've seen. We're giving away beta keys for the ongoing Ghost Recon Online beta if you're keen to get in on the action.
